Christian Biography of Erma Ferguson King Superior lost a long time resident with the passing of Erma Ferguson King on June 22, 2009. She married Oran King of this city in 1935 and has lived here since that time having spent her remaining years at Superior Good Samaritan Society. She was 97 years old. Born on a farm south of Hebron, Nebraska on June 26, 1911, Erma moved with her family to Hebron where she grew up. She graduated from Hebron High School in 1928 and Hebron College and Academy in 1930. Her college degree was in elementary education and she taught in Alexandria, Nebraska until she married. She also was a teacher for Superior Public Schools. Erma married Oran King of Superior on April 20, 1935. He preceded her in death in August 1983. During their 48 year marriage, they were involved in many civic projects. They also enjoyed traveling to many destinations both in this country and to Europe. However, their first love was to Superior and they were always anxious to return to their home and their many friends. Erma was a member of many local groups including, Eastern Star, and the Daughters of the Nile. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in the choir and women?s group, Brodstone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Superior Country Club and the Evergreen Cemetery board. Erma thoroughly enjoyed music. She was an accomplished pianist and soloist. She enjoyed being a member of the Treble Clef, a women?s choral group that begun in 1923 and performed in Superior in the 40's and 50's and was directed at one time by Arabelle Hanna. Erma also sang at numerous funerals and always considered that a great honor. She was an avid reader and a devoted bridge player. She loved her many friends but most of all she lived for her family. Erma is survived by her daughter, Karalyn of Sun Lakes, Arizona and grandson, Greg of Scottsdale, Arizona one brother, Hank and his wife Dottie of Houston, Texas; nieces Barbara Bacon Cecile of Tucson, Arizona and Gloria Ferguson Anderson of Pocotello, Idaho and nephews Tom Bacon of Payson, Arizona, and Gary Ferguson of Elkhorn, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends. Erma is preceded in death by her husband Oran, parents Mable and H.C. Ferguson, brothers, Tommy and Gene and a sister Margaret. Graveside services were held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Dorthea Fairbanks officiating. Music was an Elvis recording of ?How Great Thou Art.? Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Erma Ferguson King Memorial Fund for children?s books at the Superior Public Library.
